Issues that Need to be Dealt With In Restoring our Constitutional Rights:
- Closure Guantanamo and try people in US Federal Courts.
- Closure of CIA secret detention sites and end detention of unlitigated prisoners.
- Launch a justice department investigation into unconstitutional abuse of power
- End any use of evidence in court obtained through torture.
- Adhere to our international treaties that prohibit torture
- Restoration of Habeas Corpus and fair trials
- Repeal the Patriot Act, amendments to FISA and Immunity for telecommunications corporation who broke the law and other repressive legislation and prevent the emergence of any additional similar legislation,
- Repudiate legal opinions regarding Bush executive orders supporting warrantless wire tapping.
- Pass legislation requiring secret surveillance programs be reviewed by congressional committees or courts prior to initiation.
- Assure that the FBI and CIA and other investigatory agencies adhere to strict surveillance guidelines.
- Investigate government misconduct.
- Eliminate the unconstitutional “National Security Courts” created to avoid our existing criminal justice system.
- Investigate, prosecute and hold criminal trials to expose the crimes carried out by Bush officials and contractors.
- Propose new legislation to make it clear that military contractors are held to the same standards as Official military personnel are and are held accountable for their abuses.
- Assertion of rights of Congress to declare war before attacking another nation, thereby ending abuse of Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF) ignoring the constitutional requirement for Congress to declare war before attacking another nation.
- Pass legislation to renounce the practice of using signing statements to attempt to alter legislation.
- Pass legislation requiring the US to join the International Criminal Court.
