Energy Issues that Need to be Dealt With:
- We need an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 percent as soon as possible, but we must set a target to work toward. If we do this, it will make the U.S. a leader on Climate Change which will help us to recover our global leadership.
- Serious investment needs to be made in plug-in hybrids, electric cars, hydrogen operated cars and other alternative energies driving cars.
- Coal Powered plants should be replaced by solar panels and wind mills with serious government subsidies to encourage the transition to clean electricity.
- Use of new flex fuels such as alcohol derived from algae farms. This would make more corn available for shipment overseas.
- From Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, we also have these other alternatives to reduce global warming:
-
- Heating reduction from more efficient use of electricity in heating and cooling systems, lighting, appliances and electronic equipment.
- Reduction from end-use efficiency, meaning we design buildings and businesses to use far less energy.
- Reduction from increased vehicle efficiency by manufacturing cars that run on less gas and putting more hybrid and fuel-cell cars on the roads.
- Reduction from making other changes in transport efficiency, such as designing better mass transit systems.
- Reduction from increased reliance on renewable energy technologies that already exist.
- Reduction from the capture and storage of excess carbon from power plants and industrial activities.
More detailed policy statements will be available in days to come. We are always open to suggestions you may have.
